About the Role

National Energy System Operator (NESO) sits at the heart of the UK’s energy transition, aiming to produce first of their kinds strategic energy plans across generation, transmission and distribution.

The Electricity Network (EN) Programme Management team sits within the Strategic Energy Planning directorate, aiming to produce GB’s first Centralised Strategic Network Plan (CSNP), setting out the future of GB’s energy networks.

We currently require two experienced and proactive Project Managers to provide all aspects of Project Management support and challenge, to the CSNP Programme and associated projects within the Electricity Network programme.

The successful candidate will work in collaboration with a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders, and within the supportive EN Programme Management team.

This role can be based from Wokingham, Warwick or Glasgow and we continue to offer hybrid working from office and home. We are open to full time and part time applicants, as well as flexible working arrangements.

Key Accountabilities
  • Work closely with delivery leads to provide an excellent standard of proactive project management support, guidance, and challenge.
  • Ensure that all work streams are scoped and planned with rigour, that delivery is closely monitored, and risks/issues/dependencies are identified and effectively managed.
  • Develop detailed and higher level plans (for delivery, resource, governance and assurance), and ensure all plans are fully aligned across the CSNP Programme.
  • Proactively identify and mitigate risks, issues, assumptions, and dependencies.
  • Ensure that all changes to cost, schedule, deliverables etc are effectively managed through the SEP Change Management process.
  • Lead on the procurement and management of external consultants/contractors, in line with Procurement processes.
  • Deliver effective project governance, to internal and external bodies – producing TOR, coordinating content submissions and provision of accurate and timely reporting on status.
  • Ensure that the projects take full account of all assurance processes/reviews including stage gate reviews.
  • Work collaboratively with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders to drive forward the delivery of the project, throughout its full lifecycle, and ensure that the project’s benefits are realised.
  • Provide support and challenge into the Programme Management team, to drive forward the refinement and improvement of approaches, tools and processes and provide other ad hoc support as required.
About You

  • Is passionate about delivering effective project management, has an attention to detail, but with the ability to join the dots across work streams and projects, to maintain alignment and identify interdependencies.
  • Has experience of managing externally facing, high profile and fast‑paced projects – ideally engineering, energy sector or regulatory focused.
  • Has the capability and experience of developing various levels of plans for complex programmes. Ensuring alignment and comprehensive management of dependencies.
  • Has solid experience of developing and using a range of project management approaches, tools and processes, with a focus on continuous improvement.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Project and other planning, analysis and reporting tools.
  • Strong communicator with excellent writing skills.

About What You’ll Get

A competitive salary between £56,000 - £65,000pa – dependent on experience and capability.
