Job brief
We have a 9 month maternity cover for Band 4 qualified dental nurses to work across HCT sites.
Main duties- Maintain high standards of clinical work whilst carrying out dental nurse duties.
- Assist the dental surgeon in the provision of a complete range of NHS dental care, including treatment under inhalation sedation, general anaesthesia or IV sedation where appropriate.
- Accurately record treatment using the R4 dental electronic system.
- Participate in the annual individual performance review process.
- Carry out other appropriate duties commensurate with the post, such as school visits, home visits and epidemiology.
- Work at any of the Special Care Dental Service sites throughout Hertfordshire to cover staff sickness/annual leave/study leave etc when required.
- Sit or stand for varying lengths of time in restricted positions and respond to unexpected changes of treatment plan.
- Be exposed occasionally to distressing or emotional circumstances, such as during the treatment of very sick children or patients with challenging behaviour.
- Registration with the General Dental Council.
- Dental Nursing Qualification – national Certificate or NVQ level 3.
- Proven knowledge of IT systems, accessing e‑mail and data entry.
- Knowledge and understanding of confidentiality and ethical guidelines.
- Up to date knowledge of current professional issues, policies and procedures.
- Experience working with adults and children with a range of additional needs.
- Knowledge of Dental software.
- Good communication skills, including being able to communicate with patients who may have barriers to understanding.
- Evidence to show working as part of a team.
- Evidence to show ability to work on own initiative.
- Proven organisational skills.
- Ability to deal with patients who are extremely nervous and/or phobic.
- Hold a full, valid, UK driving licence and have access to a car to use for business purposes (unless you have a disability as defined by the Equality Act 2010).
This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
Contract and RemunerationFixed term – 9 months – Full‑time. Salary £27,485 to £30,162 per annum pro rata.
