Position Overview

A Vacancy at West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. We are looking for a full time Moving and Handling Trainer to join the Moving & Handling Service. The role requires an individual with clinical healthcare experience to be enthusiastic and passionate about Moving & Handling safe practice and to deliver training within the classroom and departmental environments across all sites of the Trust.

Whilst a ‘train the trainer’ qualification is required, any suitable candidate will be considered and training provided as appropriate. The service operates 08:00 – 16:00 Monday to Friday, with the ability to be flexible to the needs of the service.

The role is incredibly varied, and we are looking for someone who is dynamic, flexible and able to move across sites and various work streams including admin, practical training, equipment, clinical and non‑clinical areas and all levels of staff. With a new hospital planned for Watford, work underway to update theatres at St Albans City Hospital and plans for a neighbourhood healthcare centre in Hemel Hempstead, this is an exciting time to join us.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver mandatory and departmental moving & handling training and assess staff in their knowledge and practice of patient and inanimate load handling.
  • Maintain and create relevant training resources including for e‑learning and practical sessions.
  • Complete appropriate training paperwork and report to Managers when required.
  • Assist the Team in developing training programmes.
  • Help manage moving & handling equipment in terms of audits, provision, maintaining stock and dealing with fault queries and trials.
  • Supporting moving & handling champions.
  • Assist the Team with complex patient moving & handling risk assessments and requirements.
  • Assist the Team in supporting staff with their moving & handling tasks and workstation setup to help prevent musculoskeletal disorders.
Required Skills & Experience
  • Clinical healthcare experience.
  • Enthusiastic and passionate about Moving & Handling safe practice and able to deliver training within the classroom and departmental environments across all sites of the Trust.
  • ‘Train the trainer’ qualification required; suitable candidates will be considered and training provided as appropriate.
  • Dynamic, flexible, able to move across sites and various work streams including admin, practical training, equipment, clinical and non‑clinical areas and all levels of staff.
  • Effective and confident verbal and written communication and IT skills and ability to present moving & handling training programmes to all levels of staff, both theory and practical.
  • Prior knowledge of Moving and Handling Legislation and guidelines and experience of patient moving & handling practice and equipment and physically able to demonstrate and supervise best practice and influence change as needed.
  • Ability to use various training materials including presentation aids, lesson plans, training records, and identify and use equipment for each session.
  • Motivated and enthusiastic in supporting and developing Moving & Handling support programmes.
  • Ability to work independently, including diary management, as part of the service and the wider Occupational Health Team.
