Sika Apprenticeship – Materials Technician (L3)

Location: Welwyn Garden City
Compensation: £27,500 per year
Package- Starting salary: £27,500 per year
- Monday – Friday, 37.5 hours per week
- 8:00am – 5:00pm
- 25 days of annual leave + bank holidays
- Company pension provided
As an Apprentice Materials Technician, you will play a key role in the product development process by preparing, testing, and recording data relevant to product prototypes.
- Maintain laboratory facilities, calibrate equipment, ensure stock of raw materials, and liaise with relevant functions.
- Ensure Health and Safety policies and procedures are observed at the highest standards.
- Develop technical competence through hands‑on experience and practical learning, aiming for Level 3 certification as a Material Testing Laboratory Technician.
- Hands‑on, practical approach – willing to get stuck in.
- Results‑oriented with strong attention to detail for identifying problems and recording observations.
- Good health and safety awareness and the ability to work toward strict safety guidelines.
- Excellent communication, honesty, and teamwork; a collaborator who speaks up and works together.
- Enthusiasm, curiosity, commitment, and a hunger to learn.
Previous experience is not essential; we welcome applicants from all backgrounds with a genuine interest in the field and motivation to build a career.
We value attitude, curiosity, and commitment over formal qualifications. Enrolment for the apprenticeship is available to individuals over 16, not in full‑time education, who have lived in the UK for three years and have the right to work in the UK.
Program OverviewOver 18 months, you will dedicate a minimum of 6 hours per week to off‑the‑job training, including theory lessons, virtual learning, and practical shadowing. The programme leads to a Level 3 Materials Technician apprenticeship and provides the knowledge, skills, and work habits needed for success.
Future OpportunitiesUpon completion, you may secure a full‑time position within Sika, pursue higher‑level qualifications such as a BSc in Applied Materials Science, or transition into roles across construction materials, civil engineering, geotechnical investigation, and environmental consultancy.
