Mechanical Engineer (Industrial Gearboxes) Birmingham £16.50 £ 19.00 per hour  Overtime  Training  Benefits Workshop-Based Role A long-standing engineering company in Birmingham is looking for a Mechanical Engineer to join their workshop team, focusing on the strip-down, inspection, repair and rebuild of industrial gearboxes and rotating equipment. Prior gearbox experience is beneficial, but engineers with strong mechanical fitting or overhaul experience are also encouraged to apply.

The Role This workshop-based position involves hands-on mechanical engineering work, stripping and rebuilding a wide range of industrial gearboxes. Youll assess component condition, diagnose wear or failure, and carry out high-quality repairs to return equipment to operational standard. Ideal for someone with a background as a Mechanical Engineer , Mechanical Fitter , Maintenance Engineer , Workshop Engineer , or anyone experienced in mechanical strip-and-rebuild work.

Key Responsibilities Strip down industrial gearboxes for inspection Diagnose mechanical faults and identify worn or damaged components Rebuild gearboxes to precise standards and tolerances Use workshop tools including presses, torque tools, pullers and lifting gear Prepare units for final testing and quality checks Maintain accurate job documentation and follow workshop safety standards Requirements Experience in mechanical engineering, mechanical fitting or overhaul work Ability to strip, inspect and rebuild mechanical assemblies Good understanding of tools, tolerances and mechanical principles Gearbox experience preferred but not essential full training available Strong attention to detail and pride in producing quality work Team player with good communication and reliability Package £16.50 £ 19.00 per hour depending on experience Overtime available Training on industrial gearbox overhaul and refurbishment Monday Friday, workshop-based role Stable, long-term opportunity with progression About Cloud Recruitment Cloud Recruitment is a specialist engineering and technical recruitment partner, supporting clients and candidates across the UK with a focus on quality, transparency and long-term relationships.
