Overview

We are recruiting on behalf of a leading engineering and manufacturing client within the packaging and industrial automation sector. Due to continued growth, our client is seeking a Senior Electrical Design & Software Design Engineer with strong PLC and control systems expertise.

This role offers the opportunity to work on complex, high-speed machinery projects from concept through to commissioning, with scope to lead technical aspects of multi-disciplinary engineering projects.

Key Responsibilities

* Electrical design of automated machinery control systems

* PLC software development using Rockwell (Allen-Bradley) and Beckhoff (TwinCAT)

* Control system safety analysis using Sistema

* Ensure compliance with CE marking, NEC, CSA, and UL standards

* In-house commissioning and occasional on-site commissioning (UK & overseas)

* Collaboration with mechanical, electrical, and software engineering teams

* Technical leadership on projects involving multiple engineering disciplines

* Evaluation and implementation of new automation and control technologies

* Continuous improvement of machine performance, reliability, and safety

Skills & Experience Required

* HND or equivalent in Electrical Engineering, Automation, or a related discipline

* Strong experience in electrical design and PLC software development

* Hands-on experience with Rockwell / Allen-Bradley PLCs

* Hands-on experience with Beckhoff / TwinCAT PLC systems

* Background in packaging machinery, automation, or special-purpose machinery

* Knowledge of functional safety, risk assessment, and Sistema

* Understanding of CE, UL, CSA, and NEC compliance

* Ability to work independently and lead technical elements of projects

* Strong fault-finding, problem-solving, and commissioning capability

* Excellent communication skills and customer-facing experience

* Willingness to travel occasionally (UK & international)
