The Department of Energy, Mines and Resources has a Grad Corps opportunity for a Forest Management Technician. The intern will perform field data collection related to timber harvesting activities, monitoring projects and assist with data analysis. The participant will gain valuable forestry experience in a variety of ecosystems in Yukon in both summer and winter and participate in forestry operations, planning and research work.

This position will work for a one‑year term from approximately May 2026 to May 2027. The salary will be 80% of the starting salary – $65,006.

• A post‑secondary degree or diploma in Forestry or a natural resources related field;
• Preference will be given to those with coursework in: forest mensuration, silviculture, forest harvesting, forest operations, vegetation identification, GPS, GIS, forest management, ecology, forest science, soils.
• Experience with data entry is an asset.
• Experience with report writing and analysis is an asset.

Conditions of employment:
Valid Yukon Class 5 driver’s license; pre‑employment medical clearance. Valid First Aid Certificate required within six months (training will be provided if required).

Job Requirements:

Must be able/willing to travel throughout the Yukon. Available to work long hours, strong enough to carry heavy loads (field equipment, safety gear etc.) and be able to work/travel in a remote environment.

• Be a resident of Yukon or a person of Yukon First Nations ancestry*
• Have graduated with a diploma or degree from a recognized post‑secondary institution within the past two years (2024, 2025 or 2026 grads – all requirements for graduation must be complete before internship start date)
• Have little or no work experience in your field of study
• If you are a resident of Yukon who completed your studies outside of the territory, you may apply up to two years after graduation.
