Job Summary

Fraser Health Authority invites applications for the RN/RPN, MH&SUS Specialized Populations role. We are dedicated to planetary health, diversity, respect, caring, and trust.

Responsibilities
  • Provide clinical nursing services on a case management basis to clients referred to the team.
  • Offer education on mental health and substance use issues to caregivers, professionals, community groups, and agencies.
  • Administer prescribed psychotropic medication, monitor effects, and encourage medication compliance.
  • Give follow-up and monitoring of complex psychiatric/medical situations, including substance use/dependence, and referral services where necessary.
  • Consult and collaborate with interprofessional team members and adjust care plans as required.
  • Facilitate clients’ utilization of appropriate community services through liaison with key service providers.
  • Advocate for clients to protect autonomy, privacy, dignity, and access to information.
  • Document assessments, observations, interventions, and referrals according to practice standards.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Current registration as a Registered Nurse or Registered Psychiatric Nurse with BCCNM.
  • Two (2) years recent related experience or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Valid Class 5 B.C. Driver’s License and access to a personal vehicle.

Skills and Abilities

  • Network with other services and agencies.
  • Teach and provide consultation to clients, caregivers, and professionals.
  • Complete initial and ongoing mental health and substance use client assessment and provide nursing care through appropriate interventions.
  • Knowledge of mental health and substance use treatment.
  • Knowledge of psychopharmacology.
  • Counselling and group facilitation skills.
  • Knowledge of legislation and government policies.
  • Effective verbal and written communication.
  • Promote person-centered care and advocate for special populations.
  • Organize and prioritize work; collaborate with the interprofessional team.
  • Use evidence-informed nursing decisions and actions.
  • Operate related equipment including computer applications.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
