Laboratory Assistant (BCGEU)Status: Part Time Regular Float
Schedule: Varies (20‑37.5 hours per week)
Start Date: ASAP

Union: BCGEU collective agreement
- Greet patients, request required information, explain specimen collection, and ensure compliance with test protocols.
- Perform phlebotomies, connect/disconnect Holter monitors, conduct 24‑hour blood pressure monitoring, and record ECG tracings.
- Collect special tests (medical/legal drug screens, paternity tests, clinical trials) and complete related documentation.
- Maintain client relationships by responding to inquiries and following up on requests.
- Enter patient demographics and requisition information into the data system.
- Prepare specimens for transportation and testing.
- Completion of a recognized Medical Laboratory Assistant program or equivalent healthcare experience (e.g., nurses, infusion therapists, cardiac technologists).
- ECG training or experience is an asset.
- Proficient data entry skills.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Maintain strict patient privacy and confidentiality standards.
- Effectively relate to patients and health care providers.
