IT Project Manager – Wigan (Hybrid) – Competitive salary plus great benefits

Full time – 40 hours per week (5 days a week)

XL is looking for an IT Project Manager to join our team, based at our Wigan office. You’ll be empowered to make a real impact within acollaborativeenvironment.

You’ll play a crucial part in scoping and analysing customer needs, coordinating internal resources, and creating the project plans and documentation that keep everything aligned.

You’ll track milestones across scope, cost and timescales, manage change control, and ensure all activity follows our governance processes. You’ll also take the lead in facilitating workshops and updates, escalating issues where necessary, and ensuring every piece of change is delivered with clarity and control.

What will the role involve?
  • Lead scoping and requirements‑gathering activities, analysing customer needs and defining key requirements for BAU changes and projects.
  • Coordinate internal resources, maintain project plans and documentation, and manage delivery against scope, budget and timescales.
  • Manage scope changes through the agreed change‑control process and perform configuration activities where required.
  • Work in line with established project management processes and tools, ensuring all change follows governance standards.
  • Facilitate workshops and update sessions across all levels of the business, including exec stakeholders.
  • Escalate risks and issues appropriately to the Senior Leadership Team and business sponsors.
  • Responsible for ensuring the quality of the work of the team. Setting clear examples of positive behaviour which is in keeping with our values.
  • Proactively support effective team management by seeking timely guidance from your manager, addressing conflict, managing conduct and attendance in line with AXL policies, and building open, positive working relationships with colleagues and stakeholders.
For your portfolio of systems/applications and services, you will:
  • Manage IT ‑ related project activities and own system changes through to implementation.
  • Provide technical user support (directly or via external partners) and maintain clear self ‑ service guidance.
  • Lead problem, patch, and release management, ensuring accurate system and configuration documentation.
  • Maintain strong information security and governance across all systems.
  • Work with technology partners and the Enterprise Architect to define and maintain system roadmaps, including patch, release, licence and data ‑ management plans.
  • Ensure effective system monitoring, licence management, and ongoing compliance with operational and security standards.
What are we looking for?
  • A minimum of two years’ experience employed within a similar position.
  • Knowledge of and ability to apply suitable methodologies for delivering projects, change and continuous improvement.
  • Demonstrable experience in technical administering of systems/applications.
  • Azure Cloud and SaaS product experience desirable.
  • APM, PRINCE2 or Agile

    PM qualification is advantageous.
  • Able to work effectively in a fast ‑ changing environment and deliver under pressure.
  • Strong communicator with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
  • A supportive team player who can also work independently when needed.
  • Comfortable working to tight deadlines and adapting to shifting business needs.
  • Skilled in capturing requirements and delivering system change.
  • Thorough, methodical, and detail ‑ focused, with strong numerical skills and clear written and verbal communication.
  • Full UK Driving license.
