Senior Estimator – Highways

Are you ready to take your estimating expertise to the next level? At Octavius, we're looking for a talented Senior Estimator to join our dynamic highways team. If you thrive on the challenge of competitive tendering and want to make your mark on major civils, pavements, drainage, earthworks, and structures projects, this is your opportunity to shape the future of infrastructure across England.

Responsibilities
  • Produce and manage analytical cost estimates, target costs, and budgets for one-off tenders, projects, and frameworks.
  • Prepare accurate and timely cost estimates that reflect project requirements, site conditions, and client needs.
  • Develop cost plans, order‑of‑magnitude budgets, and design‑to‑cost budgets.
  • Analyse method‑related costs and temporary works in collaboration with project teams.
  • Compile tender summaries, risk registers, and contribute to written methodologies and proposals.
  • Present commercial strategies at adjudication meetings and hand over successful bids to delivery teams.
  • Seek feedback and drive business improvement initiatives.
About You
  • Experienced estimator with a background in general civils, highways, pavements, drainage, earthworks, and structures.
  • Proven experience estimating rates from first principles for large, complex infrastructure projects.
  • Familiarity with Method of Measurement and preparing Bills of Quantities.
  • Strong knowledge of construction techniques, technologies, and risk management.
  • Excellent IT and estimating software skills.
  • A degree, HNC/HND, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • A proactive, detail‑oriented approach, with a passion for building relationships and driving continuous improvement.
