Reporting to the Executive Director, Engineering/Deputy City Engineer, this position will be responsible for overseeing infrastructure projects within the municipality right-of-way including, but not limited to, new roads, sewers, drainage works, sidewalks, active transportation measures etc.

This position will:
Supervise a team of technical staff, including engineers and technologists and is responsible for leading and overseeing a broad range of engineering assignments, including the technical design and preparation of specifications, cost estimates, tender documents, and contract administration for municipal infrastructure projects. Oversee projects from inception to completion, coordinating with all relevant stakeholders, and ensuring that public infrastructure is designed and constructed in full compliance with municipal and provincial standards.

The incumbent will affix their professional engineer’s seal to drawings and documents and assume professional responsibility for all projects assigned to the division.

Represent the Corporation and liaise with consultants and contractors during the planning, design and construction of assigned projects. Oversee the development of contracts and agreements, including the evaluation, selection, and procurement of services and products from vendors.

The role is responsible for establishing and reviewing project plans and schedules, managing project teams, and removing roadblocks that may hinder project success. Identify and mitigate project risks and issues, prepare Council reports, and present to City Council and/or senior management as required.

Additional responsibilities include contributing to the capital budget process by recommending priority infrastructure improvements, providing cost estimates and breakdowns by funding source considering industry trends and project timing, conducting research and preparing reports, briefings, and other written correspondence.

Ensure staff familiarization with Provincial safety legislation and corporate safety policies and procedures. Perform Occupational Health & Safety duties as outlined in the Corporation’s Health and Safety Program.

Perform other related duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS :
Must have a Master’s Degree in in Engineering (Civil or Environmental), or Ontario Ministry of Education equivalency and a minimum of six (6) years of progressively responsible engineering experience in a municipal environment, OR Must have a University degree in Engineering (Civil or Environmental), or Ontario Ministry of Education equivalency and a minimum of ten (10) years of progressively responsible engineering experience in a municipal environment.

Must be licensed by the Professional Engineers of Ontario (P.Eng.).

Must have in-depth knowledge and experience with infrastructure, project management methodology and practices, and applicable legislation.
