Under the general supervision of the Senior Charge Technologist, the General Duty Radiology Technologist – MRT performs diagnostic imaging duties within the scope of training and experience. The technologist assists radiologists with procedures, provides direct patient care, contributes to training and orientation of technologists, instructs radiology students, and supports administrative functions as part of a multidisciplinary team.
ResponsibilitiesAssist radiologists in performing radiologic procedures; assist with training and orientation of technologists; participate in instructing radiology students; provide direct patient care; administer administrative and operational support functions.
Experience- Patient care experience preferred.
- Graduate of an accredited school of Medical Imaging Technology.
- Successful completion of the Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists certification exam (CAMRT).
- Must be a member of CAMRT-MB and CAMRT in good standing.
- Must have the ability to start and establish IVs or commit to successfully completing the departmental Intravenous Certification Program within 3 months from the date of hire (site specific).
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Physical health to meet the requirements of the position and be able to stand or walk for extended periods of time without resting.
- Must demonstrate the use of safe and effective body mechanics while working with clients.
- Must be able to safely transfer large and/or heavy clients who may have limited or no weight bearing capabilities.
- Must be able to lift and position clients, some of whom are in a state of unconsciousness.
- May be exposed to radiation (within acceptable limits).
- May be required to occasionally work extended hours.
- May be exposed to infectious diseases, blood and body fluids, toxic materials, noise, allergens, physical and emotional stress.
- May encounter aggressive and/or agitated clients/visitors/staff.
- Must be able to push/pull portable equipment in a safe manner.
- May be required to work with provincial safety and health officer or other employees in the continuous development of safe work practices.
This term position may end earlier as outlined in your collective agreement.
