Position Summary

Reporting to the Environmental Supervisor, the Environmental Wastewater Operator takes full ownership of the process aspects of Wastewater, Air Quality, and Decanting operations. This role is critical for ensuring environmental compliance, performing preventive maintenance, and upholding the highest standards of Health, Safety, and Environmental policies.

POSITION TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES Wastewater/Air Treatment
  • Manage and operate the WWTP equipment, which includes centrifugal and positive displacement pumps, automatic wastewater samplers, a polymer batch mixing station, and two wastewater DAF units operating in series
  • Makes process changes utilizing manual data, instrumentation readings, and visual inspections; troubleshooting as needed
  • Manage chemical dosing systems to maintain high process performance, regulatory compliance, and minimal operating costs.
  • Collect and test water samples, including jar testing, to ensure process accuracy and treatment efficiency
  • Collaborating with other departments such as production, maintenance, and fleet to help ensure effective wastewater treatment
  • Monitor and do schedule preventive maintenance on packed‑bed wet scrubbers and venturis
  • Maintain and record data in Operator Shift Report, PM checklists
  • Inform the Environmental Supervisor on all important operational, environmental, and safety issues and events promptly
Used Cooking Oil Decanting
  • Manage the heating and pumping of grease from trailers, drums, and pails (involves physical maneuvering and lifting)
  • Operate grease processing equipment, pumps, drum tippers, decanters, and a centrifuge (involves working with steam)
  • Perform Quality Control testing on decanting samples for insoluble impurities
  • Ensure that all paperwork for grease receiving and processing is organized and accurate
General Duties
  • Ensure the Wastewater Treatment Plant, Grease Processing equipment, and surrounding areas are kept tidy at all times. Performs routine plant cleaning during assigned shift
  • Loads, unloads, and stores materials, chemicals, and supplies; checks chemical inventory and informs the Environmental Supervisor of needed chemicals and supplies
  • Works collaboratively with other departments in a supportive capacity. May be required to help other departments from time‑to‑time.
  • Assist with the development and maintenance of wastewater, scrubber, venturi, and decanting operation SOPs.
  • Support Environmental Health and Safety initiatives through hazard reporting
  • Other duties as assigned
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Education/Certification: University degree or Class 1 Wastewater Certification is preferred; must be able to pass the certification exam within 6 months of hire
  • Experience: 2–3 years of industrial operating experience
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to lift, push, and pull between 10 to 70 lbs.
  • Availability: Must be able to work 12‑hour shifts, including nights and weekends on rotation
  • Soft Skills: A safety‑first mindset, self‑motivated, and the ability to remain calm in a fast‑paced environment

    1); $31.45/hour (with Class
    1)
