L'Arche Winnipeg is a vibrant disability services organization that is primarily located in Transcona and St. Boniface. For over 50 years, we have been actively supporting, creating homes, and facilitating social and employment opportunities for about 25 people living with intellectual disabilities. Our diverse community includes six houses, one Supported Independent Living unit, the L'Arche Tova Café and an extended network of friends who are passionate about creating a world where all people can thrive.

Description of Duties:
Our social enterprise the L'Arche Tova Café is an interactive place where we provide social and employment opportunities for people with intellectual disabilities. Located in the heart of Transcona, the cafe features hearty breakfast and lunch table service, take-out, catering, and offers freshly baked goods daily.
Our trainees with disabilities are paired with a mentor to learn and perform valuable service industry skills like greeting customers, presenting menus, and serving food and beverages. Volunteer mentors receive a paid lunch and enjoy their break with their teammate.
The Cafe Mentor will partner with a volunteer with an intellectual disability to:
- Welcome customers to the café with a smile
- Set tables with menus and wrapped cutlery
- Take beverage orders and serve beverages
- Assist in bussing tables along with other essential restaurant tasks
Skills Required:
- Friendly, flexible, patient and reliable
- Good listening skills and professional communication skills
- Committed to supporting teamwork and inclusivity
- Experience supporting/knowing people with disabilities is an asset
Skills Gained/Related Careers:
Volunteers gain skills in working in an inclusive environment as part of an effective team, communication, and restaurant/Café skills of customer service.
Volunteers are screened through the interview and check process and clear criminal-vulnerable record and adult abuse registry checks are required along with three references and an orientation-probation period.

Daytime , Weekend
The L'Arche Tova Café is open Tuesday - Saturday from 7:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and volunteer cafe mentors partner with adults with disabilities to support serving staff from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 on those days.
Volunteers commit time for an interview, having appropriate checks (criminal-vulnerable and adult abuse checks), providing three references and a period of orientation and probation during their weekly or bi-weekly shift as arranged with the Volunteer Coordinator.
At this time we are recruiting for adult volunteer mentors for Tuesdays and Fridays.
Flexibility to occasionally fill in on Wednesdays, Thursdays, or Saturdays is an asset.
