About Us
Shalom Residences Inc. is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting adults with intellectual disabilities within a Jewish milieu. We provide person-centered residential and supported independent living services, ensuring that individuals can live fulfilling lives while maintaining a connection to their Jewish heritage and traditions.
About the Role We are seeking a Jewish Inclusion Coordinator to enhance Jewish programming for our residents and staff. This stipend position is ideal for someone who is passionate about Jewish traditions, culture, and community engagement, and who has experience working directly with adults with intellectual disabilities in a dignified and respectful way. The consultant will collaborate with staff to develop inclusive, meaningful, and person-centered cultural activities that reflect the interests and needs of the individuals we support.
Key Responsibilities
• Engage with residents in a way that fosters dignity, respect, and meaningful participation in Jewish cultural and religious experiences.
• Collaborate with staff to incorporate Jewish customs, traditions, and holidays into programming in an accessible and engaging way.
• Build and maintain relationships with key Jewish organizations, including the Jewish Federation of Winnipeg, Gwen Secter Active Living Centre, Rady JCC, Simkin Centre, and synagogues across the city, to create opportunities for residents to connect with the broader Jewish community.
• Assist in planning and coordinating celebrations for Jewish holidays, Shabbat observances, and other cultural events that are adapted to the unique needs of each resident.
• Provide staff training on how to facilitate Jewish traditions and cultural experiences in a way that is inclusive, person-centered, and respectful of each individual’s abilities and preferences.
• Identify and recommend Jewish community resources, guest speakers, or interactive experiences tailored to the interests of the residents.
• Advocate for the full inclusion of adults with intellectual disabilities in Jewish cultural life and ensure programming reflects their voices and choices.
Qualifications & Skills
• Experience working directly with adults with intellectual disabilities, with a demonstrated ability to communicate with respect, patience, and understanding.
• Strong knowledge of Jewish traditions, holidays, and cultural practices.
Established connections within Winnipeg’s Jewish community or a demonstrated ability to build partnerships with Jewish organizations.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
• Creativity and adaptability in making Jewish traditions accessible and engaging for a diverse group of individuals.
