Start Date: As soon as possible
Hours of Employment: 6 hours per day (3hrs AM & 3hrs PM)
Wage: $28.11 per hour
Basic Function- Ensure the safe and efficient transportation of students to and from school and related activities according to Manitoba Province and Division procedures.
- The Spare Bus Driver reports to the Director of Transportation.
- Cooperates with other bus drivers and the office staff in the Transportation Department.
- Under the direction of the Director of Transportation, provide safe and efficient transportation to students and staff.
- Carry out duties in accordance with the Highway Traffic Act, Public Schools Act, Manitoba School Bus Driver’s Handbook, and Division policies.
- Maintain and update route and route maps; keep them conspicuous in the assigned bus.
- Maintain orderly student conduct and report misconduct.
- Complete daily pre‑trip inspections and log book entries; report defects immediately.
- Keep the interior clean and sanitary; maintain exterior cleanliness as weather permits.
- Maintain fluid levels and fuel the vehicle as required.
- Report all accidents promptly.
- Conduct “Bus Evacuation” drills.
- Complete required forms and reports.
- Attend driver meetings and workshops.
- Assist other transportation, maintenance, or caretaking personnel as required.
- Notify the Director immediately of traffic charges or medical conditions affecting duty performance.
- Learn and use the Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System.
- Current Class 1 or 2 Province of Manitoba Driver’s License.
- Current Manitoba School Bus Driver’s License.
- Ability to understand written and spoken English.
- Excellent driving record (Manitoba Driver’s Abstract).
- Pass a practical driving examination administered by the Director of Transportation.
- Minimum one (1) year of school bus driving experience is an asset.
- Effective communication skills.
- Physical abilities as per the attached Physical Demands Analysis.
- Individuals with a current Class 5 Province of Manitoba Driver’s License are welcome to apply; training will be provided and paid to obtain a School Bus Operator Certificate and a Class 2 Province of Manitoba Driver’s License.
