The Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Generic Assistant Practitioner to join our supportive, progressive team, in the fast paced environment of Trauma & Orthopaedics. Based at University Hospital Wishaw, this is a weekend only post for the centralised service for both the North and South Lanarkshire populations. Through participation in the Scottish Hip audit we are recognised as one of the busiest departments within Scotland.

Applicants must be able to demonstrate an understanding of the role of Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy, clinical reasoning and core therapy skills. They will be able to prioritise and work in a busy and fast‑paced environment. Also, demonstrate a self‑motivating and dynamic approach. Focus on early intervention and discharge planning is key to timeous discharge. Ideally, the Practitioner will have experience of working within a rehabilitation setting.

Duties will include:

  • Working under the supervision of registered therapy staff to assist patients to achieve their rehabilitation goals.
  • Undertake baseline assessments within clearly defined parameters for the identified service.
  • Implement, adapt and progress treatment programmes within agreed protocols and defined parameters.
  • Use specialist technical and practical skills to deliver flexible, patient centred programmes across a variety of clinical settings.
  • Discharge or transition care within agreed protocols and defined parameters.

The post holder will be supervised by the weekend Specialist Occupational Therapist adhering to weekend operational duties, coordinating updates with the weekday Therapy Team, and be involved in relevant service improvement, staff development, supervision and clinical effectiveness.

  • Experience of therapy or rehabilitation / re-ablement in a health, education or social care environment.

Location and Working Pattern

This role will be based in Occupational Therapy within University Hospital Wishaw.

The working pattern for this role may include having to work a 5 over 7 day rotation.
