About this jobThis post will provide the opportunity for the post holder to access specialist clinical sessions appropriate to their development needs and participate in clinical work. The remainder of the weekly job plan will consist of general middle grade duties on ophthalmology clinics and theatres; allowing the successful candidate to maintain their skills in Ophthalmology. Responsibilities include supporting the Ophthalmology Directorate at New Cross Hospital, managing outpatient workload duties, participating in research, education, audit and continuing professional development, collaborating with colleagues across professions, ensuring clinical governance requirements are met, and covering breast clinics and elective operating theatre lists.
The post holder will be responsible for the clinical care of patients under supervision as necessary, maintain proper case records and investigations, and communicate with General Practitioners and others as required. The role aims to enhance a workforce capable of fulfilling our values, improving quality of care, and addressing future health care challenges.
- Support the Ophthalmology Directorate at New Cross Hospital.
- Manage outpatient workload duties including new, result, and elective operating theatre lists.
- Take responsibility for continuing professional education in accordance with guidelines set by the appropriate college/faculty/professional body.
- Actively participate in research and audit programmes in accordance with Trust policies and procedures.
- Collaborate with colleagues in developing skills to provide new ways of working across different professions.
- Ensure that the requirements of clinical governance are met.
- Cover breast clinics and elective operating theatre lists.
- Provide clinical care of patients under supervision as necessary.
- Maintain proper case records and investigations on patients, and correspond with General Practitioners and others as required.
- Participate in clinical and other service activities with the object of ensuring a high standard of patient care.
- Work flexibly and cross‑cover for colleagues.
- Take an active part in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and training.
- Contribute to the management of the clinical service and service development.
- Contribute to the research and development of the department.
- Provide cover for colleagues as appropriate and in accordance with local Trust arrangements and Trust Policy.
- Registered with the General Medical Council by the date of commencement.
- Experience in ophthalmology clinical practice and middle grade duties.
- Proficiency in clinical audit and participation in research programmes.
- Ability to work flexibly and cover colleagues during study and annual leave.
- Whole‑time appointment to the Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust.
- Managerially accountable to the Clinical Director of Ophthalmology.
- Approval for leave at the discretion of the relevant Consultants to maintain continuity of patient care.
- Annual leave entitlement: 27 days plus 8 bank holidays per annum, pro rata for contracts of less than 12 months.
- Occasional duties in emergencies and unforeseen circumstances at Consultant request, though principals will not be required to undertake such work for prolonged periods on a regular basis.
