The Stroke Service at The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust is seeking to appoint a Locum Consultant to join our dynamic team, dedicated to delivering high-quality and innovative hyperacute and acute stroke care.
Established in 1995, the Wolverhampton Stroke Service provides comprehensive care for a population of approximately 600,000 across Wolverhampton, Walsall and South Staffordshire. Over three decades, the service has developed into a leading regional provider with a strong reputation for excellence and innovation.
Service Overview- Purpose-built 39-bed Stroke ward with an integrated TIA clinic.
- Around 1,200 confirmed stroke admissions annually.
- Comprehensive 24/7 thrombolysis service.
- Established thrombectomy pathway to UHNM Hospital, Stoke-on-Trent.
- All duties are within the Stroke Directorate - no general medical on-call commitment.
- Suspected stroke patients presenting to ED are assessed by a dedicated Stroke Specialist Nurse team, available 24/7.
- The nurse team operates independently, triaging all referrals.
- Active involvement in a national pilot of pre-hospital video triage with West Midlands Ambulance Service.
This Consultant post offers the opportunity to join a well-established, forward-thinking service with access to modern facilities and regional pathways. You will work within a multidisciplinary team committed to delivering outstanding hyperacute and acute stroke care, while contributing to service development and innovation.
Main duties of the job1. To act as a Consultant Physician providing, with colleagues, a safe and effective 7 day Hyper-acute and acute stroke service and a daily TIA service
2. To work with rehabilitation and community services to ensure timely and safe transfer of care
3. To contribute to audit, the Stroke database and performance review to ensure the service continues to meet the requirements of the National Stroke Strategy, Regional Stroke Specification and SSNAP
4. To contribute to stroke service teaching and training
5. To contribute to under-graduate teaching.
