We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic, self‑motivated individual with excellent interpersonal skills who is, or will shortly be, HCPC registered as a Clinical Scientist working in Clinical Biochemistry. The role is based with the Black Country Pathology Service (BCPS) and delivers a senior level clinical biochemistry advisory service across the Trust and partner services.
Key Responsibilities- Work as a member of the BCPS clinical team with colleagues, clinicians, and other stakeholders to provide a patient‑centred, safe, clinically and operationally effective Clinical Biochemistry service.
- Participate in clinical advice and interpretation of results and take part in the duty biochemist rota, providing support to clinicians and service users.
- Deliver complex scientific work, including method development, utilisation of complex laboratory equipment, and ensuring compliance with UKAS: ISO 15189 or equivalent standards (Clinical Audit, EQA, IQC).
- Provide professional support for projects, develop standard operating procedures and clinical guidelines, and contribute to quality improvement activities.
- Work with Principal and Consultant‑level guidance to maintain the quality management system, respond to incidents and implement corrective action.
- Support research and development culture, including participation in research programmes, dissemination of findings, and fostering a research‑enabled workforce.
- Undergo training leading to satisfactory attainment of Fellowship of the Royal College of Pathologists qualification.
- Maintain registration with the Healthcare Professions Council.
- Participate in continuous professional development, annual appraisal, and work towards achieving objectives.

- MSc in clinical biochemistry or equivalent.
- State Registered (HCPC) as a Clinical Scientist.
- Participation on duty biochemist rota.
- High level of IT literacy including LIMS.
- Evidence of scientific publications.
- Evidence of leadership experience.
- Knowledge of a range of clinical biochemistry techniques.
- Experience of HR processes (appraisal, recruitment, selection).
- Other relevant postgraduate qualification.
- Knowledge of a range of clinical biochemistry techniques.
