Temporary Traffic Management Works Engineer

Location: Site based and Home – Worcester, United Kingdom

Contract Type: Permanent – 37 hours per week

Salary: £39,152 – £41,771 per annum (PO1)

This role is part of Worcestershire County Council’s Events & Open Highways team. The Temporary Traffic Management (TTM) Works Engineer will ensure that roadworks meet safety and legal standards, keeping the public informed and reducing disruption where possible.

Key Responsibilities
  • Carry out vital inspections of both developer‑led and Council‑led highway improvement schemes, as well as major events.
  • Ensure all work activity complies with the Safety of Street Works and Road Works (the Red Book), and is inspected accordingly.
  • Work out of hours on an ad‑hoc basis to manage disruptive schemes/events and provide live public updates.
  • Assess simple and complex traffic management proposals in advance of works, suggesting solutions to reduce impact in line with NRSWA and TMA regulations.
  • Deputise for the Events & Open Highways Manager on relevant occasions.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Dynamic team player with strong communication skills.
  • Knowledge of New Roads & Street Works Act (NRSWA) and Traffic Management Act (TMA) 2004.
  • Experience in inspecting roadworks and ensuring compliance with the Red Book.
  • Ability to work flexible hours and manage high‑pressure situations.
