The Role: Are you passionate about governance and giving back to your community? At Worcestershire County Council, we are inviting you to become part of our Audit and Governance Committee as an independent member.
The Audit and Governance Committee oversees all governance aspects of the Council. It has responsibility to ensure the public purse is protected, there is accountability for actions, mitigation of risk along with sound risk management and the control environment remains strong and fit for purpose.
This is a voluntary role. Your experience and insight can help shape the future of the Council’s governance and risk management requirements. There is an allowance linked to the post based on attendance at Committee throughout the year of £1750. The Committee sits circa 5 times during the municipal year;
June, July, September, December and March.
- Overseeing Constitutional requirements
- Ensuring risk management and the control environment remain strong and fit for purpose
- Debating the agenda items
- Supporting and Challenging Members and Officers
- Overseeing financial decisions to ensure our resources are used wisely and efficiently to achieve value for money
We are particularly keen to hear from individuals with a strong governance background. We would also like to hear from individuals with an audit, finance or risk management background. Your experience does not have to lie solely in the public sector. Your skills will complement our existing committee and help us continue to grow and improve.
If you are ready to grow your skills and be part of something truly rewarding, we would like to hear from you. There is an expectation of attendance at the meetings throughout the year. The meetings take place during the working day and last for approximately 2 to 3 hours. Preparation time to read the agenda items is a requirement and training and support is provided.
Applicants must be 18 or over. You must not have worked for the Council within the last 2 years or be associated to either a Member or Officer of the Council. You must be able to work in the UK.
