Role Overview

You will manage around 35 team members on the shopfloor at our cables factory. Work will be on a 4‑on/4‑off continuous shift pattern, days and nights (7 am‑7 pm/7 pm‑7 am).

Key Activities and Responsibilities
  • Ensure compliance with Site and Company Health and Safety Policies and maintain high safety standards.
  • Act as the out‑of‑hours health‑and‑safety contact and support as the Production Manager requires.
  • Model safety behaviours, reinforce correct practices through regular safety observations.
  • Investigate accidents/incidents and provide initial statements and counter‑measure actions.
  • Maintain quality standards and investigate when triggers are breached.
  • Support team leaders through the Short Interval Control (SIC) process to keep standards on target.
  • Report downtime losses and, when thresholds are breached, conduct investigations with the shift team.
  • Ensure accurate handover logs and handovers to maintain continuous improvement.
  • Complete all Operator Daily Checks and oversee housekeeping/cleaning tasks.
Communication
  • Provide briefings and one‑point lessons to production teams.
  • Deliver an effective handover to the incoming Shift Manager.
  • Compile a shift report for the Site Leadership Team, outlining performance, issues and actions.
  • Conduct start‑ and end‑shift meetings with shift management and maintenance.
  • Support production leads in daily summaries and escalation meetings.
  • Facilitate cross‑department communication to resolve problems promptly.
People Matters
  • Identify training needs with production leads and track training completion.
  • Organise overtime ensuring site rules and controls are observed.
  • Act as first contact for people issues, escalating to the Production Manager as needed.
  • Report absences, manage return‑to‑work interviews, and record reasons accurately.
  • Monitor timekeeping and lateness, escalating issues.
  • Manage holidays in line with site rules.
  • Hold one‑to‑one meetings with shop‑floor staff.
Process Flow Management
  • Monitor WIP and non‑conforming product during the shift to support the Production Plan.
  • Collaborate on the Daily Production Plan with Production Control/Logistics.
  • Ensure adherence to the plan, responding to forced changes such as absences.
  • Detect and challenge deviations from standards constructively.
  • Provide a visible shop‑floor presence and be the principal out‑of‑hours contact.
Candidate Profile
  • Significant cable‑making experience.
  • Knowledge of extrusion processes.
  • Experience with computer‑controlled manufacturing processes.
  • Understanding of 6S and housekeeping.
  • Pro‑active attitude and positivity.
  • PC literate – data input, quality control, data access.
  • Excellent interpersonal, teamwork and communication skills.
  • Self‑starter, initiative‑driven and ready to take ownership.
