Senior Mechanical Design Engineer | Automotive | Wymondham | Up to £55k
Our client, a leading automotive technology company based on the outskirts of Norwich, is seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join their specialist R&D team. Working on cutting‑edge vehicle simulator systems, you will take ownership of complex mechanical design projects and play a key role in shaping next‑generation simulator technology.
You will lead the mechanical design of simulator subsystems—including cabins, access systems, and motion stages—producing high-quality 3D and 2D designs and supporting the wider engineering team.
Responsibilities- Own the mechanical design of key simulator subsystems (e.g. cabin structures, access systems, motion platforms).
- Develop detailed 2D and 3D CAD designs.
- Produce engineering drawings, specifications, BOMs, part lists, and associated documentation.
- Work closely with Purchasing on part costings and sourcing decisions.
- Update and refine existing CAD models and drawings.
- Collaborate closely with internal departments and external suppliers.
- Mentor junior and regular engineers within the Mechanical Design & Engineering Services (MDES) team.
- Support the MDES Team Lead and Chief Designer with day‑to‑day coordination tasks.
- Lead small engineering sub‑teams and work independently when required.
- Relevant engineering qualification or substantial demonstrable industry experience (via university, college, apprenticeship, or progressive engineering roles).
- Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office tools.
- Genuine interest in the Automotive or Motorsport sectors.
- Solid Works experience.
- Experience leading or mentoring a small team of engineers.
- Hands‑on practical engineering experience (e.g. automotive repair, manufacturing, or assembly).
- Strong knowledge of at least one manufacturing process (e.g. welding, machining, carbon fibre layup).
- Salary up to £55,000 (depending on experience).
