Job Title:
Obsolescence Engineer
Location:
Yeovil / Gosport / Bristol (Onsite)
Duration: 12 Months (possible extension)
Clearance: SC Required
Responsibilities:
Support the Obsolescence Capability Lead in the provision of Obsolescence Management Services for the UK portfolio, including the generation of processes and reassessment of plans to reflect changing requirements.
Assist in the preparation of material for briefings, meetings, and formal working groups (internal and external).
Highlight obsolescence issues or opportunities at the earliest possible stage and, where required, support mitigation and development plans to address identified concerns.
Attend internal, supplier, and customer meetings as required.
Liaise with other functions (Engineering, Supply Chain Management, and Training) to ensure Support Engineering and obsolescence activities remain informed and aligned with wider programme developments and progress.
Liaise with customers on specific areas of obsolescence.
Assist in coordinating Support Engineering deliverables (CDRLs), ensuring timely inputs are received, reviewed, and that final outputs are ready for approval, with a strong focus on First Time Quality.
Liaise with international and OEM obsolescence personnel as required by the role.
Work as directed by the Obsolescence Capability Lead and the Product Support Engineering Manager.
Aside from technical responsibilities, there is potential to support wider company initiatives such as quality improvements, promoting a strong safety culture, Diversity and Inclusion activities, mentoring and coaching, STEM outreach, and various focus projects supporting the growth of the company and its employees.
Preferred Skills, Qualifications and
Experience:
Essential:
Ability to obtain UK SC security clearance.
A thorough understanding of Support Engineering, specifically obsolescence within a military or defence environment.
Previous experience in Obsolescence Management.
Ability to analyse engineering data.
Ability to work with cross-functional stakeholders to identify optimisation opportunities and ways in which suppliers can enhance value to customers.
Ability to liaise with OEM platform organisations to integrate UK-developed solutions with those on base platforms.
Proven ability to drive First Time Quality.
Experience working with international support standards such as Def Stan 00-600 and the ASD/AIA Suite of S-Series ILS Specifications (desirable).
Ideally educated to degree level in a relevant engineering discipline (not essential).
