The Borthwick Institute at the University of York is seeking a Digital Preservation Archivist.
Vacancy OverviewThe Borthwick Institute was established in 1953 and is one of the largest and most important archive repositories in the North of England. We provide public access to archives from the 11th to 21st centuries and serve academic departments as a repository for primary research materials.
Our role within the University includes:
- serving academic departments as a repository for primary research materials, including the University’s archive;
- guiding students, researchers and staff in the use of those materials;
- providing records management services across the University.
The successful candidate will address the long-term or permanent accessibility and viability of the University’s digital research records, as well as records produced by management and administration. Key areas of focus include:
- the preservation of digital assets, including websites and online resources;
- the long-term preservation of digital archives presented to the University;
- the preservation of archives in analogue format that can only be retained in digital format;
- the digital cataloguing of digital and non-digital archives;
- the digitisation of non-digital objects;
- the preservation of and access to these resources.
The role is based in York and offers a salary of £40,322 - £49,553 per year, on a fixed-term contract.
