An exciting opportunity has arisen to take charge of The Press in York, the Ryedale Gazette & Herald and their associated websites. These are respected titles with a strong presence in their communities.

We are looking for a dynamic individual with a passion for journalism and a strong track record in the industry. This is a rare opportunity to lead a newsroom and play a key role in shaping its future.

You will be responsible for driving digital excellence while maintaining the high standards of print products. The role requires a strategic thinker who can manage change, inspire teams, and work collaboratively across departments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the editorial direction and output across digital and print platforms
  • Drive digital audience growth while maintaining strong newspaper sales
  • Lead the change to embrace the growth of AI in newsrooms
  • Champion a digital-first culture within the newsroom
  • Ensure content is engaging, optimised, and aligned with audience needs
  • Manage and develop editorial talent across the team
  • Collaborate closely with commercial and senior stakeholders
  • Maintain the reputation and integrity of the brands within their communities
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
  • Proven experience in journalism and editorial leadership
  • Strong understanding of multimedia journalism and digital publishing
  • Demonstrated ability to lead cultural change in a newsroom
  • Strategic mindset with the ability to balance digital growth and print performance
  • Excellent communication and team development skills
  • Ability to work cross-functionally with commercial and operational teams
