As a Senior Direct & Facultative Underwriter on our downstream underwriting team in Zurich, you will contribute to a dynamic, global team, driving innovation and excellence in direct and facultative reinsurance solutions.
Your RoleYou will be responsible for facultative underwriting and marketing of global downstream, ensuring effective risk assessment, client and broker engagement.
Key Responsibilities- Drive the acquisition and growth of a profitable direct & facultative portfolio across designated lines of business and markets.
- Conduct comprehensive analysis of direct & facultative submissions, including technical risk assessments, pricing evaluations, catastrophe exposure reviews, and detailed evaluation of slips, wordings, clauses, and reinsurance agreements.
- Engage effectively with our global network of brokers and insured clients to foster strong business relationships.
- Lead negotiations on terms and conditions with international brokers to secure optimal, solution‑oriented outcomes.
- Collaborate actively with internal stakeholders including accounting, claims, wording specialists, catastrophe modeling, legal, compliance, and treaty underwriting teams.
- Manage administrative underwriting responsibilities such as reviewing and processing contractual documents, monitoring premium flows, and ensuring data quality.
- Perform regular portfolio reviews and in-depth analyses to support strategic decision‑making and continuous improvement.
- Minimum of 7 years’ experience in direct & facultative underwriting within assigned lines of business and markets.
- Strong expertise in the corporate downstream insurance and facultative reinsurance landscape, with a deep understanding of market dynamics.
- Experience in property insurance is an asset.
- Thorough knowledge of insurance coverage structures and policy specifics.
- Solid grasp of actuarial pricing methodologies and the ability to engage in technical pricing discussions.
- Excellent communication skills, with fluency in English (written and spoken); additional language skills are a plus.
- Proven ability to negotiate effectively, develop tailored solutions, and build lasting relationships with brokers and clients.
- Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills, with the ability to work seamlessly across internal teams and with senior management.
