Dutch Language Courses in The Netherlands

Direct Dutch, The Hague:
Founded in 1985, the Direct Dutch Institute provides effective Dutch courses for foreigners wishing to acquire an active command of the Dutch language while staying in the Netherlands. We use the direct method, which means that we try to speak Dutch as much as possible during the lessons. (Since some aspects of the grammar are explained in English, it is important that participants of beginners courses have a basic knowledge of English). Our language school is located close to the centre of The Hague, a few minutes away from Laan van NOI station.

Dutch Language Courses in The Hague:

Beginners Dutch A1 course (0-A1 level)
Course Duration: 6 weeks (20 hours)
Designed for absolute beginners with no prior knowledge of Dutch, this course is a great way to get familiar with the basics of the Dutch language.

With morning and evening classes available, you will learn the basics of Dutch grammar and build up a vocabulary of about 500 words.

Learn how to introduce yourself, give directions, go shopping, and have simple conversations on every-day subjects. A little knowledge of English is required to attend this Beginners Course. 

Beginners Dutch A2 course (A1 - A2 level)
Course Duration: 6 weeks (20 hours) 
With day and evening classes offered, this course aims to build on the skills you learned in the beginners basic course, and provides a solid background to continue developing their language skills independently or in an intermediate course. It teaches you to communicate effectively in Dutch within six weeks. By the end of the course, you will have learned the entire elementary grammar of Dutch, and built up a vocabulary of about 1,000 words.

Reading and writing are taught by means of practical homework. You will practice your communication skills extensively, and on completion, you will be able to discuss a wide range of topics, reaching from the weather to international politics.

Intermediate Dutch Course (A2 - B1 level)
Course Duration: 12 weeks (24 hours + 1 hour introduction) 
Ideal for students who have mastered the basics of Dutch and want to take their language learning to the next level, this course helps you to consolidate your knowledge of Dutch grammar, and extensively develop and practice both your oral and written language skills. Throughout this course, you are asked to actively use the Dutch language. This allows your teacher to watch your development closely and give you individual feedback.

In this course, you will expand your vocabulary and fluency. After successfully completing the intermediate course, you will be well prepared for the NT2 I state exam, which measures the language proficiency of non-native Dutch speakers. You will be ready to express yourself on any subject in both social and professional contexts. 

Advanced Dutch Course (B1 - B2 level)
Course Duration: 12 weeks (24 hours + 1 hour introduction). Evening classes only.
This course is designed for students who are able to speak Dutch (more or less) fluently in their every-day life, and want to master the language on a professional level. 

Throughout the course, you are asked to actively use the Dutch language, allowing your teacher to watch your development closely and provide individual feedback. You will expand their vocabulary and fluency, and consolidate your knowledge of Dutch grammar.

The advanced course exclusively works with authentic Dutch material. In addition, there is an important role for Dutch culture throughout our courses.

Intensive Beginners course (0 - A2 level)
Course Duration: 10 days (60 hours). You will have 4 lessons of 1.5 hrs per day
This intensive Dutch course is a great way to get familiar with the Dutch language in only two weeks! Designed for absolute beginners with no prior knowledge of Dutch, this course will teach you how to communicate in Dutch in every-day situations.

In this course, you will learn the entire elementary grammar of Dutch, and build up a vocabulary of about 1000 words. You will be able to communicate on a wide range of topics - introduce yourself, discuss international politics, go grocery shopping or describe your ideal partner!

Intensive Intermediate course (A2 - B1 level)
Course Duration: 10 days (30 hours). You will have 2 lessons of 1.5 hrs per day
In this course, you will consolidate your knowledge of Dutch grammar, and extensively develop both your written and oral language skills. It is designed for students who have mastered the basics of Dutch and want to take it to the next level.

On completion of this course, you will be ready to express yourself on any subject in either a social or professional context. In addition, you will be well prepared for the NT2 I state exam.

This course is taught with a maximum class size of 8 to ensure each student gets the individual attention they need. You are asked to actively use the Dutch language, which enables you to quickly expand your vocabulary and fluency. In addition, this allows the teacher to watch your development closely and provide individual feedback.

Intensive Advanced course (B1 - B2 level)
Course Duration: 10 days (30 hours). You will have 2 lessons of 1.5 hrs per day
On successful completion of this intensive Dutch course, you will be ready to express yourself fluently and correctly on any subject in both professional and social contexts. 

It is aimed at those who can already speak Dutch (more or less) fluently in everyday life, and want to master the language on a professional level. The advanced course exclusively works with authentic Dutch material.

You are asked to actively use the Dutch language, allowing your teacher to watch your development closely and provide individual feedback. You will expand their vocabulary and fluency, and consolidate your knowledge of Dutch grammar. In addition, there is an important role for Dutch culture throughout our courses.

NT2-II Exam Training
Course Duration: 12 weeks (24 hours + 1 hr introduction). You will have 1 lesson of 2 hrs per week.
This NT2-II exam preparation course is designed for students who want to take part in the NT2 State exam II. This exam is recognized by many employers and in higher education throughout the Netherlands to attest that someone has mastered Dutch on a professional level.

This course prepares you for the exam by thoroughly training the specific writing, reading, speaking, and listening skills you need to successfully pass the exam. This exam training is highly interactive and focuses on communication. Dutch is spoken throughout the course.

Conversation Plus (B1+ CEFR)
Course Duration: 8 weeks (16 hours). You will have 1 lesson of 2 hrs per week.
This short course is an ideal way to shake the dust off your rusty Dutch, or to actually start using the language you learned. This highly-interactive course focuses on communication, with a great focus on the students’ own input, allowing room to focus on each student’s individual interest and needs.

You will work exclusively with authentic Dutch material including a selection of articles from Dutch quality newspapers, such as De Volkskrant and NRC Handelsblad. In addition, there is an important role for Dutch culture.

Private Dutch Lessons:
We provide indivdual Dutch classes for students of all levels - from complete beginner to advanced. Learn at your own pace, and focus on the areas that you need to improve. We are happy to create a customized curriculum to suit your specific linguistic needs, and learning goals.

In-Company Course:
Direct Dutch provides Business Dutch classes to accommodate companies which prefer to have Dutch lessons on site. Companies can suggest adaptations to the programme, the size of the groups, the frequency of the lessons and their length to suit the needs and requirements of the employees. This enables busy business men and women interested in learning something about the Dutch language and culture to enrol, enjoy and succesfully complete our courses.
