Job Summary

The University of the Fraser Valley (UFV) Library is a hub at the university for students, faculty, and staff. UFV seeks an innovative, dynamic, and service-oriented professional for the position of Outreach Librarian who will collaboratively develop, coordinate, and support engagement and outreach initiatives for students, including non-traditional students and those from underserved populations, to target and meet the unique needs and interests of each student group.

The position will work with colleagues, campus departments, and community partners to plan and implement innovative outreach efforts, targeted programming, and inclusive initiatives, engaging the university community while adapting and promoting student-centered library services that contribute to student success and retention. Under the supervision of the University Librarian, the Outreach Librarian will participate in a wide range of activities, including information literacy instruction and research help consultations;

support liaison areas; marketing and promotion activities; coordinate library events; engage with Library and other department colleagues; and lead the UFV Library Student Engagement Working Group (SEWG). This position is based on the Abbotsford campus but may require travel to other UFV campuses; the incumbent must have their own transportation.

• A Master’s degree in Library and Information Science (MLIS) from an ALA-accredited program or international equivalent.
• Minimum of two years of experience in an academic library setting is preferred.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Comprehensive information technology and digital literacy skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work creatively and effectively as a member of a team.
• A high-level service commitment and flexibility and willingness to assume a variety of assignments.
• Ability to recognize, respect, and work effectively with individuals and groups with diverse perspectives and backgrounds. Demonstrated knowledge of issues related to equity and inclusion.

• Demonstrated experience in one or more of the following areas: assessment; collections; copyright; data services; digital resource management; information/digital literacy; marketing; scholarly communication; special collections; student engagement; or systems.
• Strong understanding of issues related to equity, inclusion, indigenization, and decolonization in library services.
• Experience as an academic liaison librarian to academic programs is considered an asset.
• Familiarity with Libguides and other Springshare products, Askaway, and experience with institutional repository management, particularly Islandora, is considered an asset.
