The School of Social Work and Human Services prepares students for social work and human services practice reflecting social justice principles, equality, and respect for diversity. The programs address the structural barriers that prevent people from reaching their full potential. With a commitment to lifelong learning and a critical analysis of oppression, graduates will have the knowledge, skills, and professional values necessary to work collaboratively with individuals, families, groups, and communities in diverse and cross-cultural environments.
The School’s programs contribute to social work knowledge through partnerships and collaborative research with professional and local communities.
The School offers an MSW, a BSW (Generalist & Child Welfare Option), a Social Service Worker diploma (Generalist & Indigenous Focus), and a School and Community Support Worker certificate. The School has developed collaborative relationships with the Stó:lō Peoples, and all diploma and BSW students are required to take courses in Indigenous practice. The MSW and BSW programs are accredited by the Canadian Association for Social Work Education.
ResponsibilitiesThe Assistant Professor will teach courses in the Social Work and Human Services programs, supervise practicum placements, develop and revise curriculum, and engage in scholarly activities, including a developing research portfolio that contributes to the scholarship of teaching and learning and developing or extending experiential learning opportunities for students. The role requires strong communication and organizational skills, curriculum development, practicum supervision, and working with a diverse student population.
QualificationsThe School of Social Work and Human Services is looking for a faculty member who has five years of experience in one or more of the following areas of education or community practice:
- Indigenous practice
- Schools (diverse learners & community inclusion)
- Healthcare
- Mental health, substance use, concurrent disorders
- Abilities and inclusion
- Gerontology
- Sexual and gender diversity
- Sex work and homelessness
- Equity-seeking groups
- Advocacy
Additional requirements include a graduate degree and a Ph.D. (or ABD) in Social Work from an accredited institution, together with five years of successful teaching at a university level and five years of direct practice experience. Candidates with a Ph.D. in a related discipline may be considered. Indigenous peoples will be given preference. The successful applicant’s curriculum vitae must reflect or incorporate Indigenous perspectives or ways of learning.
