Learning Support Teacher (.8) Senior School
Position:
Learning Support Teacher (Senior School – Grades 8–12). Position reports to the Middle and Senior School Principal and works closely with the Principal, Middle/Senior School and Director of Student.
Start date:
August 31, 2026.
Compensation:
Salary range $59,400 – $112,275 based on experience/BEd or Masters education (pro‑rated to reflect .8 FTE).
Position overview:
Aspen grove School is seeking a passionate, dedicated, and highly organized Learning Support Teacher to join our growing Senior School team (Grades 8–12). Due to enrollment growth and our commitment to inclusive education, we are expanding our Student Resource faculty to ensure a vibrant learning community. The ideal candidate will bring empathy, energy, and deep expertise in supporting diverse learners. In this role, you will work closely with students in one‑on‑one, small group, and in‑class settings, helping them navigate the academic and developmental transitions of high school.
You will also engage students through our advisory framework and co‑cultural programs. Collaboration is central to this role; the successful candidate will work seamlessly alongside our well‑established Senior School teaching team and the Student Resource Centre.
- Instructional support: planning, delivering and tracking targeted interventions for students with diverse learning needs across grades 8–12.
- Collaborating closely with the Student Resource Centre team to develop, implement and monitor Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and behaviour plans.
- Supporting students with organisation, time‑management and planning strategies; breaking down complex assignments into manageable steps and creating realistic timelines.
- Collaborating with classroom teachers to apply multiple approaches to teaching, adapt materials and introduce universal design strategies to support diverse learners.
- Consistently monitoring and tracking student progress toward academic and IEP goals.
- Communicating clearly, empathetically and professionally with staff, students and parents in person and via digital channels.
- Applying to the College Board for accommodations for AP Exams.
- Participating in Senior School life activities, including supporting athletic events, clubs or other co‑cultural duties as required.
- Familiarity with IB MYP courses and BC curriculum for grades 8 to 12.
- Experience, education or training in inquiry‑based learning pedagogies and universal design for learning strategies.
- Strong, empathetic understanding of neurodiversity, including Autism Spectrum Disorder, learning disabilities, ADHD, executive dysfunction and social‑emotional challenges.
- Fluent communication skills in English, both oral and written.
- Strong organisational, communication, administrative and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
- Canadian residency and legal entitlement to work in Canada.
- A valid BC teaching certificate or Independent School Certification qualifying criteria.
Must pass and maintain a clear criminal record check for the purposes of working with children.
