Open Education is an educational movement grounded in the principle that knowledge is a public good. The Open Education Coordinator will be a member of the Open Education Team responsible for delivering a university-wide open education program and supporting the Zero Textbook Cost (ZTC) initiative. Reporting to the University Librarian, this role works collaboratively with the Scholarly Communications & Copyright Librarian and the Learning Specialist (Curriculum and Assessment) to build on previous open education initiatives and programming.
The Open Education Coordinator works on projects and duties related to awareness building and campus engagement for open education and ZTC at the institution (such as Open Education Week). This role assists in answering general open education questions from faculty, staff, administration, and students when appropriate or referring to another member of the OE Team. This position will assist with the coordination of internal funding opportunities including hosting information sessions, arranging student contracts, processing student timesheets, and providing project support.
The incumbent will complete administrative tasks including arranging Open Education Working Group meetings, ZTC activities, promotion and marketing of open education, as well as website support. The successful candidate may also develop relevant resources such as reports, assist with consultations and grant writing, and support the implementation of UFV’s Open Education Strategy at various levels. Open education project level support and training for UFV community members (e.g. using Press books or other open content platforms) may also be required.
This position is based on the Abbotsford campus and travel between campuses may be required.
Qualifications- Completion of a two (2) year diploma in an area of business, project management, library and information studies, or publishing from an accredited post‑secondary institution.
- Three (3) years of related experience. A certificate in office management or any area above and five (5) years related experience may be considered.
- Proficient in Microsoft 365 applications (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, SharePoint) and Adobe Creative Suite Cloud.
- Ability to work independently under minimal supervision, exercising good judgement, flexibility, and initiative.
- Well‑developed customer service skills including the ability to deal sensitively, effectively, and professionally with students, staff, faculty, and other professional groups as well as the public.
- Conflict management and problem‑solving skills.
- Well‑developed interpersonal skills and written and oral communication skills.
- Excellent time‑management, organization, event and project planning, coordination, prioritization, and follow‑up skills.
- Ability to successfully recognize, analyze and resolve problems.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated supervisory, project management, and organizational skills.
- Experience managing a budget an asset.
- Superior ability to exercise judgment, maintain a high degree of professionalism, discretion and confidentiality.
- Writing for the web and experience with social media an asset.
- Ability to recognize, respect, and work effectively with individuals and groups with diverse perspectives and backgrounds.
- Demonstrated knowledge of issues related to equity, diversity, inclusion, Indigenization, decolonization and accessibility.
- Knowledge of open education is an asset.
- Knowledge of Creative Commons Licensing and copyright basics an asset.
- Knowledge of UFV and BC Post-Secondary system an asset.
- Experience with Press books, institutional repositories, and other technologies an asset.
- Experience with Lib Guides, learning management systems, and/or open badging an asset.
