Teacher - Woodworking​/Build & Design

Job Summary & Responsibilities

The successful candidate will teach Woodworking and Technology Education within a middle school setting, supporting students in Grades 6–8. The role includes instruction in woodworking, robotics, and emerging technologies, while maintaining a safe, well‑organized shop and makerspace environment. Responsibilities include designing and delivering engaging inquiry‑based and project‑based learning experiences, assessing student learning through formative and summative practices, differentiating instruction to support diverse learning needs, collaborating with colleagues, communicating with families, and contributing positively to the school community.

Professional expectations include managing individualized learning programs, demonstrating strong classroom management and conflict resolution skills, supporting students and families through challenging situations, engaging in ongoing professional development, and exhibiting excellent written and verbal communication skills. A commitment to fostering an inclusive, supportive, and student‑centered learning environment is essential.

• Bachelor of Education with a specialization in Technical Studies / Technology Education
• Training and/or experience in a middle school setting
• Knowledge of middle school philosophy and adolescent development
• Experience teaching woodworking and shop safety procedures
• Experience with robotics, coding, and 3D printing
• Experience with shop equipment (laser cutter, heat press, drill press)
• Knowledge of inquiry‑based learning, design thinking, and ADST competencies
• Experience managing materials, tools, and technology systems
• Strong collaboration and communication skills
• Experience with Skills Canada Framework, developing makerspaces is preferred
• Eligible for B.C. Certification
• Satisfactory teacher evaluation and/or final practicum reports
