Job Summary
Academic Advising is hiring for two (2) full-time, temporary Academic Advisors.
The Academic Advisor provides holistic, integrated advising services to current students, supporting them in achieving their academic, career, and personal goals by guiding them through academic requirements and university processes. The advisor conducts assessment interviews, assists with academic planning, outreach initiatives, and develops individualized success strategies tailored to student needs. This position actively engages with students through orientations, workshops, and advising events and collaborates with academic and student support services to enhance the student experience.
The Academic Advisor plays a critical role in keeping students and their advising colleagues informed about program and curriculum changes and ensuring advising practices remain current and relevant. Acting as a liaison between students, faculty, and administration, the advisor supports program development and policy interpretation. This position requires working across multiple UFV campuses with occasional evening and weekend availability.
Qualifications
A Bachelor’s degree from a recognized institution is required.Two (2) years of experience in student academic advising in a post-secondary environment.A Graduate Certificate or graduate degree in Academic Advising or a related post-secondary student development area is preferred.Demonstrated professional development relevant to academic advising.Demonstrated collaborative, inclusive, relational approach to working with others.Demonstrated strength in written and oral communication, including attention to the audience.Demonstrated problem-solving skills, creativity, and resourcefulness.Experience in the development and delivery of presentations.Evidence of strong interpersonal skills, including building trust and rapport with diverse student populations, conflict resolution, and teamwork.Evidence of ongoing professional development relevant to the position.Demonstrated knowledge of the needs of students, including subpopulations within the University like international students, Indigenous students, athletes, and students requiring academic accommodations, to develop targeted advising programming.Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs and digital tools and communications is required; familiarity with Banner and Achieve Appointment Manager software is an asset.Evidence of a strong commitment to the ethical and professional standards (FOIPPA regulations) of providing service to students.How to Apply
