The position reports to the Supervisor, Structures Engineering, and contributes to the development and mentoring of junior and intermediate engineers.
Job DescriptionThe Senior Specialist Engineer - Structures is responsible for the technical development, design, analysis, and approval of aircraft structural repairs and modifications. This role provides high-level engineering expertise in both primary and secondary structures and supports certification activities in accordance with Cascade Aerospace procedures and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities- Design and/or approve repairs, modifications, and product developments, focusing on structures in accordance with Cascade's Engineering procedures.
- Develop designs considering the requirements of the customer, certification authorities, and all other project constraints.
- Apply accepted engineering principles and develop innovative methods for solving engineering problems and developing design solutions.
- Follow the systems engineering approach as defined in Cascade's Systems Engineering Manual.
- Provide design guidance to management as required.
- Develop engineering data packages in support of airworthiness certification and other department purposes.
- Prepare and/or approve engineering reports and other documents in accordance with Cascade's Engineering Authorization Matrix.
- Liaise with airworthiness authorities to develop certification requirements and data necessary to demonstrate compliance.
- Review and/or approve the work of others.
- Coordinate and supervise the engineering activities of other engineering personnel and outside engineering service providers in development of engineering data.
- Ensure all certification requirements are represented in configuration control and certification data package.
- Mentor junior and intermediate engineers.
- Assist with the development of other engineering personnel in the application of engineering principles in developing design solutions.
- Apply principles of project management in performing engineering activities.
- Provide technical supervision of the activities of others, in developing the project scope, cost and schedule estimates, and quality requirements.
- Monitor project performance against accepted estimates.
- Implement actions to re-establish project performance to meet targets.
- Advise management on project performance.
- Provide engineering support to internal and external customers.
- Participate in the administrative activities of the engineering department.
- Perform other duties as required.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability and interest in mentoring junior engineers.
- Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team (stress/design/liaison/airworthiness).
- Advanced knowledge of aerospace static stress, fatigue and damage tolerance analysis.
- Strong working knowledge of finite element analysis (FEA), including model validation and verification.
- B.Sc., M.Sc. or Ph.D. in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent).< /li>
- Registered, or eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with Engineers and Geoscientists British Columbia (EGBC).
- Eligible for Transport Canada authorization nomination under AWM 505 with a Design Approval Organization; and/or Department of National Defence (DND) authorization nomination under the Technical Airworthiness Authority (TAA) with an accepting organization.
- Must be eligible to meet requirements for Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP), U.S. International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and Canadian Government Security Clearances.
Location: Abbotsford, BC, On site
Salary: $33.76 to $100.00 per hour (hourly)
Terms of Employment: Permanent, Full time, Starts as soon as possible
