The Team

Our team, the Office of the Chief Veterinarian – Dairy Program, is a small, collaborative group committed to supporting safe and sustainable dairy production across BC. We value diversity and inclusion, bringing together expertise in animal welfare, livestock management, and regulatory compliance to serve producers and protect public health. As part of this established team, you’ll work closely with the Lead Dairy Inspector and other specialists in a respectful, supportive environment where different perspectives are welcomed and flexibility helps us meet the needs of both industry and community.

The Role

As a Dairy Inspector, you’ll work directly with dairy producers across BC to ensure farms meet the requirements of the Milk Industry Standards Regulation. This includes conducting on‑farm inspections, providing practical guidance to correct issues, and supporting producers through sometimes complex situations. The role combines technical knowledge with strong communication and problem‑solving skills, and we value diverse perspectives to build trust and positive relationships with producers while ensuring safe, high‑quality milk for communities.

Qualifications
  • Diploma in agriculture sciences, or equivalent, with experience in the dairy industry focused on farm‑level production, OR diploma in Law or equivalent, with operational experience in a regulatory compliance program.
  • Operational experience in mediating solutions, regulatory enforcement or auditing, with preference given to experience under the Milk Industry Act, the National Dairy Code, or the Dairy Farmers of Canada Pro Action.
  • Valid BC driver’s licence.
Proviso
  • Meet the safety standards of Work Safe BC.
  • Conduct fieldwork that involves travel to remote areas across the province by vehicle, overnight or extended stays, and working in all weather conditions.
