The City of Abbotsfords Bylaw Services Department is seeking a self‑motivated and experienced Bylaw Screening Officer to join their energetic team on a temporary basis.
Reporting to the Senior Manager, the Bylaw Screening Officer is primarily responsible for administering the bylaw dispute adjudication program for the City.
Responsibilities Administers the bylaw dispute adjudication program.
Reviews and processes bylaw notice enforcement disputes per the Bylaw Notice Enforcement Act and city policy.
Provides information and clarification to the public regarding bylaws, policies, regulations, payment procedures and dispute resolution processes.
Directs complex or specialized inquiries to the Senior Manager as appropriate.
Administers adjudication hearings, enters into compliance agreements, and processes judgments registered against property titles.
Qualifications Grade 12 supplemented by a certificate in Local Government Administration or a related field from a recognized post‑secondary institution.
At least two years of administrative work experience, including experience with the Local Government Act.
At least one year of experience processing bylaws‑related folders in the AMANDA system or an equivalent information system.
A valid BC Class5 driver’s licence.
Comprehensive knowledge of relevant bylaws, municipal operations, Canadian legal system, court procedures, rules of evidence, federal acts, and provincial statutes.
Compensation & Benefits The position is unionized (CUPE Local), with an hourly rate of pay from $31.83 to $37.48 plus a comprehensive benefits package.
Applicants must provide a current and clean driver’s abstract and complete a satisfactory Police Information Check prior to the start date.
