The salary range for this position is CAD $41.42 - $59.52 / hour

The Registered Nurse provides direct patient care by assessing, planning, providing and evaluating nursing care to patients in an emergency department, working in partnership with an interprofessional care team to deliver person‑centered care.

In accordance with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) standards of practice and the Mission and Values of Fraser Health, the Registered Nurse offers direct patient care in an emergency department setting.

• Assess patients and collect information from a variety of sources using observation, communication, data review, and physical assessment; make nursing diagnoses and determine appropriate interventions.
• Collaborate with patients, families and caregivers in developing and implementing care plans that encourage family participation and respect patient autonomy.
• Participate in admission, discharge planning and care coordination, ensuring comprehensive planning and communication with the interprofessional team.
• Coordinate nursing care, set priorities, delegate tasks to support staff, and refer appropriately according to protocols and standards.
• Collaborate with physicians, licensed practical nurses, patient care coordinators, clinical nurse educators and other health care professionals to resolve patient issues and adjust care plans.
• Teach patients and families about illness prevention, health restoration and maintenance, assessing learning needs and providing demonstrations for self‑care and discharge.
• Plan and discuss referral information, and collaborate with team members to initiate referrals to community agencies.
• Document assessments, diagnoses, interventions, outcomes, and referrals according to practice standards and Fraser Health procedures.
• Participate in nursing committees, care conferences and councils as assigned.
• Engage in research and quality improvement activities, collecting data and recommending changes to practice.
• Attend in‑services and educational programs, identifying learning goals and maintaining clinical competence.
• Act as a preceptor or mentor to new staff and students, sharing information and assisting with orientation.
• Provide feedback to management regarding patient care programs, policies and equipment effectiveness.
• Perform other related duties as required.

Graduation from an approved School of Nursing with current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM). Completion of applicable postgraduate coursework in emergency, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience in emergency.

• Perform initial and ongoing patient assessment and provide nursing care through appropriate technical, therapeutic and safety interventions.
