Job Summary

The Research Assistant I works under the supervision of the Director, EFCIE. The Assistant assists with research duties related to collecting data, analyzing data, operating and maintaining related equipment, software applications, tools, and assisting with the preparation of documentation, all in support of research projects and activities. The Assistant may spend their time in an office or in the field.

Qualifications

Diploma in a relevant discipline/ field or two (2) years of education from a recognized post-secondary institution.

Knowledge in statistics, economics, innovation and methodologies of the research project are required.

Minimum of two (2) years related experience working in a research centre is required.

Experience with specialized software (NVIVO, STATA, SPSS) and econometric datasets, is required.

Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Forms, SharePoint, One Drive, Bookings, and Power Automate) and Brightspace.

Strong evidence of research and academic writing skills is required.

Knowledge and experience in qualitative and quantitative research methods and software is a major asset.

Strong reviewing and proofreading skills and experience formatting research dissemination materials are major assets.

Experience developing content and online materials using Content Management Systems (eg., UFV Terminal4) and Canva and pages for research websites is an asset.

Experience with audio/ visual (AV) equipment setup on campus and off-campus for hybrid events is an asset.

Ability to work independently under minimal supervision, exercising good judgement and initiative.

Ability to work accurately, pay attention to details as applicable, and problem solve technical and methodological issues that may arise.

Ability to deal sensitively, effectively, and professionally with students, staff, faculty, and research participants.

Well-developed interpersonal skills and written and oral communication skills.

Ability to learn and apply sound research techniques, methodology and logical critical analysis.

Demonstrated time management and organizational skills and the ability to meet deadlines.

Experience helping organize and supporting research meetings, events and activities may be required.

While hours may be flexible, evenings and/ or weekends may be required.

Access to reliable transportation may be required for off-site field work.
