The Elizabeth Fry Society of Greater Vancouver (EFry) is a charitable organization that supports women, girls, and children at risk, involved in or affected by the justice system. We are recruiting for a Casual Overnight MHSU Worker for the Sequoia at Firth Residence Program—a provincial specialized substance use treatment program that serves women and gender diverse people with severe and high‑risk substance use dependency and co‑occurring moderate mental health care needs.
The program is strengths‑based, trauma‑informed, culturally safe, and concurrent disorder‑capable, providing evidence‑based treatment, education, and support through a multidisciplinary team.
- Support client service plans in conjunction with the client, their supports, and the multi‑disciplinary team.
- Assist the admission process by assessing client needs, gathering information, assessing risk, determining service priorities, and collaborating with the team to develop care plans and assess need for emergent crisis intervention.
- Provide individual, family, and group support including referral and access to community services, and facilitate transition to and from the client’s home community.
- Liaise with care providers, service providers, and stakeholders, including community MHSU, tertiary and acute care, and government ministries.
- Provide follow‑up care as needed, including referral to community‑based MHSU, primary health and dental care, vocational programs, recreational programs, and peer support groups.
- Establish, maintain, and enhance therapeutic relationships based on respect, engage others in treatment planning and evaluation, provide follow‑up planning, support clients to manage self‑care, encourage informed decision‑making, and empower clients to improve quality of life.
- Maintain client records and program documentation in accordance with policies and procedures.
- Monitor day‑to‑day operations of the residence to ensure quality control in adherence to licensing regulation.
- Maintain the facility, including support with cleaning and managing supplies.
- Diploma in social service work or related field.
- Two (2) years of recent experience working with clients and families affected by substance use disorders, mental illness, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Understanding of substance use disorders, mental illness, concurrent disorders, and treatment principles of recovery.
- Demonstrated client assessment and case‑management skills.
- Knowledge of Trauma‑Informed Practice and its application to the defined population.
- Knowledge of culturally safe care and gender‑informative service delivery.
- Experience working in a licensed facility is an asset.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to lift up to 30 lbs.
Job Requirements
- Minimum on‑call availability of five shifts per week, including overnights.
- Food Safe Level
1. - Standard First Aid with CPR‑C.
- Evidence of a Tuberculosis Test and compliance with the TB Control Program.
- Doctor’s note of fitness required.
- Valid driver’s license (Class5) with satisfactory driving record.
- Eligible for enhanced reliability screening (candidate must be a PR holder or a citizen with a minimum of five years Canadian residency) and a satisfactory Criminal Record Review (Vulnerable Sector Search).
