Float Social Worker - West (Abbotsford, Mission, Langley) - #1778

Full Time Position – Abbotsford, Mission, Langley (BC)

We are a fully delegated Indigenous Children & Family Service Agency providing programs and services to Indigenous children, youth, and families on and off reserve within Stó:lō Territory in the Fraser Valley.

Our programs and services are created and delivered with the support of our Elders Advisory Council with special attention on strengthening culture and identity, while honoring the strength of families.

Position Summary

Float Social Workers are regular full‑time employees that may be scheduled to work from any of our offices in Langley, Abbotsford, and Mission. Under the guidance and supervision of the Delegated Team Leader, Social Workers on multidisciplinary teams are responsible for developing a trusting and respectful relationship with children, families, and communities the agency serves. Float Social Workers contribute across the entire social work service delivery spectrum.

Education,

Experience & Knowledge Required
  • Bachelor of Social Work Degree, Child and Youth Care Degree or a Social Sciences degree
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in the human services field (asset)
  • Combination of related education and experience may be accepted
  • Delegated or willing to attend training for C6 delegation in BC
  • Demonstrated abilities in developing strong working relationships with children, families, Indigenous communities, foster parents, biological parents, and other FVACFSS employees; developing contractual arrangements; balancing competing priorities; working under pressure; writing concise reports; representing and promoting FVACFSS; conducting investigations; completing assessments; developing work plans; implementing plans and evaluating intervention success
  • Ability to comply with practice standards set out in the Child Protection Response Policy (Chapter
    3), B.C. Child, Family and Community Services Act, and the Aboriginal Operational and Practice Standards and Indicators (AOPSI) Manual
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the generational impacts of colonization, the Residential School System, and historical child welfare policies, and the findings of the TRCC
  • Knowledge and appreciation of Stó:lō cultural practices and traditions and how culture impacts development of individuals and communities
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills; ability to work collaboratively to provide coordinated service
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Professional commitment, flexibility, good problem solving and dispute resolution skills
  • Computer literacy (databases, Microsoft Word, Excel, other software)
  • Valid BC Driver’s Licence (no restrictions); reliable transportation with adequate vehicle insurance
  • Criminal Records Check required
