The City of Nanaimo is seeking a temporary full-time Lifeguard/Instructor. Under the general supervision of the Manager, Aquatics, Aquatic Coordinator, or Aquatic Supervisor, the incumbent performs lifeguard and aquatic instructional program procedures as per facility policy. The position is responsible for supervision and control of activities, maintaining safety standards, and ensuring cleanliness of aquatic facilities. The role exercises mature judgment in carrying out instructional skills and general lifeguarding duties.
Requirements- Lifesaving Swim Instructor Certification
- C.P.R. “C” Certification
- National Lifeguard Certification – Pool Option
- Satisfactory Criminal Record Check
- Experience teaching aquafit classes is considered an asset.
This is a CUPE bargaining unit position based on a 40‑hour work week. The hourly wage is $24.57, increasing to $25.86 after 60 working days (Jan 2025 Rates). The vacancy is anticipated to last up to one year. Extensive weekend and evening work may be required in addition to weekday shifts.
