Cyber Security SOC and Compliance Engineer

Responsible for monitoring and protecting the ICT infrastructure from cyber threats, ensuring resilience of critical patient services.

Main duties of the job

  • Provision of a virtual Security Operations Centre function, including monitoring and reviewing the Security Information & Event Management system and other controls.
  • Proactive analysis and identification of suspicious/malicious activity, evaluation of data for patterns and trends.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of cyber threats and apply threat hunting techniques.
  • Support the Cyber Security Awareness Programme and address Information Security Management System, Cyber Essentials, and NIS-R requirements.
  • Assist in developing and delivering monitoring systems to measure compliance with standards.
  • Provide advice and guidance on ICT, Information, and Cyber Security queries.

Qualifications and Knowledge

  • Degree level education or equivalent experience.
  • Continual Professional Development evidence.
  • Good working knowledge of multiple systems and hardware platforms.
  • Knowledge of NHS Wales and LHB IT standards and requirements.
  • Level 3 Award in Education and Training (or equivalent).
  • Recognised professional qualifications such as MCSE, MCSP, ITIL Foundation.
  • Knowledge of application management.
  • Membership of a professional body such as SDI, BCS or FedIP.
  • Full knowledge of NHS IT security policies and procedures.
  • Good knowledge of organisational goals and objectives, change management, and customer services management.

Experience

  • Experience providing ICT support to negotiated service level agreements in a hospital or large organisation environment.
  • Problem identification and resolution.
  • Experience working in an NHS/social care or voluntary sector setting.
  • Participation in change management projects and process re‑engineering.
  • Experience supervising staff and liaising with senior managerial and clinical staff.
  • Experience managing change initiatives.

Aptitude and Abilities

  • Calm, effective communication in stressful situations.
  • Clear and concise technical writing, operational procedures and system documentation.
  • Advanced IT/keyboard skills across Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Research and investigative skills in ICT issues.
  • Effective prioritisation and planning in a high‑pressure environment.
  • Willingness to travel across the Health Board and beyond if required.
  • Training and support skills for staff.
  • Sound judgment, decision‑making and organisational skills.
