Overview

The Distribution Center Director oversees all operations at their site while leading Operations Managers and Supervisors to ensure excellent safety, quality, productivity and over all team morale. This position is responsible for achieving operational and financial objectives and ensuring efficiency throughout the facility. This role oversees all areas of distribution operations including inbound receiving, intra-warehouse movement, outbound e-commerce and retail store fulfillment and partners closely with groups company-wide, including Engineering, Analytics, IT, Transportation, Store Operations, Merchandising, HR and Recruiting.

This is a full-time, salaried, exempt position.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities
  • Manages $20M+ distribution payroll and operations expense budget
  • Leads a team of high-performing, diverse & dynamic leaders consisting of Operations Managers, Supervisors and 250+ distribution center specialists
  • Monitors and drives key service level metrics to deliver on our promise of an excellent customer experience
  • Accountable for KPIs, including safety, quality, retention, productivity and throughput for distribution center operations
  • Establishes initiatives that drive year over year improvement, as well as streamlines and optimizes day-to-day operations
  • Contributes to the development of new tools, processes and technology which make teams more efficient, effective and safe
  • Manages multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment with effective communication and follow through
  • Communicates and explains new directives, policies, or procedures to managers, meets with entire operations staff to explain changes, answer questions, and maintain morale
  • Manages corrective/disciplinary action when necessary, collaborating with Human Resources on appropriate conversations, actions, follow-up and documentation
  • Maintains and promotes a safe work environment for all employees
  • Monitors and ensures compliance in all legal matters and communicates any needs or concerns
  • A steward of company culture, promoting and embracing business practices, philosophies and strategy
  • Conducts timely and objective salary and performance reviews of direct reports and participates in supervisor or specialist reviews as appropriate
  • Leads, coaches, trains and manages the values and attitudes of all distribution specialists by managing behavior, actions and performance through proper communication and follow-up
  • Ability to work in a non-climate-controlled environment
  • Contributes to a clean and safe Distribution Center
  • Consistently arrives promptly to work the assigned schedule
  • Responsible for maintaining discretion related to all confidential/sensitive company and customer information
  • Performs other requested tasks and duties
Experience and Skills Required
  • College degree preferred
  • 7+ years of retail distribution, e-commerce or supply chain management experience in an automated distribution center environment
  • Experience with complex operational processes and performance improvement projects with lean or six sigma experience
  • Able to work collaboratively across functions and gather multiple points of view into a streamlined action plan, driving results in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience handling employee relations issues including investigations, administering disciplinary action, and employee terminations
  • Analytical ability necessary to gather and interpret data to further develop, recommend and implement solutions
  • Technologically savvy, collaborative, confident leader, utilizing Microsoft Office products to analyze and articulate opportunities
  • Working knowledge of WM, LM, conveyors, sortation and robotic systems
  • Confidence and competence in decision making
  • Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and a safe manner
  • Ability to pass background checks and investigations due to foreign, federal, state and local regulations; based on position responsibility and sensitivity, periodic check and reinvestigations may be performed
  • Experience managing others including career development, directing and evaluating work
  • Is committed to working scheduled hours and has the flexibility to work additional hours based on changing business needs
  • Knowledge of industry business and passion for following trends in the industry
