Position Summary
Outside Service Salesperson at North American Truck and Trailer is responsible for growing the service department’s business by developing and maintaining strong relationships with fleet operators, commercial accounts, and independent truck owners. This role focuses on promoting all dealership service capabilities—in-shop repairs, mobile service, express lane diagnostics, preventive maintenance, and specialized programs—to increase customer satisfaction, retention, and profitability.
The ideal candidate is a motivated self-starter with a strong understanding of truck maintenance and a passion for helping customers keep their fleets on the road.
Key Responsibilities- Business Development & Account Growth
- Identify and pursue new service opportunities with fleets, leasing companies, municipalities, and independent truck owners.
- Actively promote mobile service offerings, including on-site maintenance, repairs, DOT inspections, and emergency breakdown response.
- Develop new business through cold calling, networking, and leveraging existing relationships.
- Account Management & Customer Support
- Serve as the primary contact for assigned service accounts, ensuring a high level of satisfaction and communication.
- Schedule maintenance and repair services—both in-shop and mobile—based on customer needs and operational schedules.
- Conduct regular account reviews with key customers to assess performance, plan upcoming service needs, and address concerns.
- Sales & Service Promotion
- Promote all North American Truck and Trailer service capabilities:
- Mobile Service (on-site maintenance and repairs)
- Express Lane Diagnostics (2-hour assessment with written estimate)
- Preventive Maintenance Programs
- Warranty Repairs
- DOT Inspections and fleet compliance services
- Communicate seasonal promotions, service specials, and maintenance programs to customers.
- Prepare and present tailored service proposals, maintenance agreements, and cost-saving solutions.
- Promote all North American Truck and Trailer service capabilities:
- Customer Service & Relationship Management
- Act as the customer advocate within the dealership, coordinating with service advisors, parts, and management to ensure timely and quality repairs.
- Provide consistent updates, follow-ups, and post-service reviews to build long-term trust and repeat business.
- Reporting & Performance Tracking
- Document all customer interactions, opportunities, and follow-ups in CRM or designated systems.
- Meet or exceed sales and retention targets.
- Report weekly activities, sales pipeline, and performance metrics to management.
- Proven experience in outside sales within the trucking, automotive, or heavy equipment industry.
- Knowledge of commercial vehicle service operations, including mobile and preventive maintenance programs.
- Strong communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
- Self-motivated, organized, and able to manage multiple accounts and priorities.
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record required.
- Mechanical ability to perform light duty repairs for campaigns and recalls.
- Ability to use troubleshooting programs, give fleet techs repair guidance.
- Ability to train presentations to a group of customer techs in a conference room format.
- Ability to work with manufacture to provide additional solutions to situations.
- Work with a dealer network to provide priority service to key accounts across US.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; college coursework in business or automotive technology preferred.
- 2+ years of experience in outside sales, preferably with a focus on service, maintenance contracts, or fleet solutions.
