Major Duties- Performs airfield inspections to ensure compliance with federal regulations.
- Inspects, maintains, and repairs navigational aids, airfield lighting, signage, rotating beacon, and lighted windsocks.
- Monitors runway, taxiway, and apron conditions to ensure safe landing, take off, and taxi conditions.
- Issues Notices to Airmen to keep pilots updated on airfield conditions.
- Monitors wildlife activity on aerodrome.
- Performs quarterly inspections of Precision Approach Path Indicator, Runway End Indicator Lighting System, Fixed Base Operator Fuel Farm, and Jet Bridge.
- Participates in snow and ice control duties in compliance with FAA approved Snow and Ice Control Plan.
- Monitors access, security, and operations in the Airport Operations Area to ensure compliance with Airport Security Plan.
- Organizes and prepares for FAA inspections.
- Maintains, inspects, and repairs aircraft rescue and firefighting vehicles.
- Participates in required training.
- Remains in communication with pilots while on movement areas.
- Maintains and repairs concrete and asphalt surfaces.
- Rejuvenates surface painted position markings to ensure compliance with FAA specifications.
- Maintains building and grounds.
- Monitors, operates, and repairs climate controls, lighting, generators, and security systems.
- Monitors and maintains lift stations.
- Repairs airfield electrical system.
- Operates and maintains heavy and light equipment.
- Operates and maintains various electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
- Restores and fabricates metal structures.
- Participates in custodial duties as required.
- On-call duty every 5th weekend.
- Responsible for security and oversight of the facilities to include monitoring and observation of trespassing, theft, or other criminal activity and reporting it at the time of observation.
- Performs related duties.
Knowledge of FAA rules and regulations.
Knowledge of asphalt and cement construction and maintenance principles.
Knowledge of electrical and HVAC maintenance principles.
Knowledge of plumbing repair and maintenance principles.
Knowledge of specialized airport equipment and systems, such as jet bridges, baggage belts, and de-icing equipment.
Skills and AbilitiesSkill in the operation, repair and maintenance of a variety of vehicles, heavy equipment and other equipment.

Supervisory ControlsThe Airport Operations and Maintenance Supervisor assigns work in terms of general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with procedures, accuracy, and the nature and propriety of the final results.
GuidelinesGuidelines include relevant federal regulations and airport and city policies and procedures. These guidelines are generally clear and specific but may require some interpretation in application.
Complexity/Scope of WorkThe work consists of related specialized duties. The variety of systems to be maintained contributes to the complexity of the position.
The purpose of this position is to participate in municipal airport operation and maintenance functions. Success in this position contributes to the safety and efficiency of airport operations.

Contacts are typically to provide services, to give or exchange information, or to resolve problems.
Physical Demands/Work EnvironmentThe work is typically performed while intermittently sitting, standing, stooping, walking, bending or crouching. The employee frequently lifts light and heavy objects, climbs ladders, uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, distinguishes between shades of color, and utilizes the sense of smell.
The work is typically performed in a shop, an office, and outdoors, occasionally in cold or inclement weather. The employee is exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, and machinery with moving parts. Work requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, gloves, etc.
