Overview
The Medical Secretarial Service has a vacancy for Medical Secretary to join the Urology Team at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary (ARI). This exciting opportunity is ideal for an experienced secretary or administrator looking to expand on their existing knowledge or transition into a medical secretarial role.
Key responsibilities- Provide secretarial and administrative support to a large team of Consultant Surgeons and their medical and nursing staff within the Urology Department.
- Book theatre lists and UCAN outpatient clinics.
- Diary management and answering patient queries.
- Manage the awaiting results system and perform other administrative and PA tasks.
- Work within a busy, fast‑paced specialty with a high volume of cancer patients.
Full‑time, 36 hours per week. Hours are negotiable between 8 am and 5 pm, Monday to Friday.
What we look forThe ideal candidate should have previous Medical Secretary experience, or a similar role such as Legal Secretary, PA, or Team Secretary. Essential skills include:
- Diary management scheduling
- Excellent interpersonal and organisational skills
- Touch typing and transcription of documents from audio files
- Knowledge of medical terminology and NHS administrative experience (advantageous but not essential)
The Medical Secretarial Service provides secretarial and administration support to medical, surgical, and clinical teams across the acute sector of NHS Grampian. The team consists of Medical Secretaries, Audio Typists, Administrators, Filing Clerks, Receptionists, Trainers, PAs, and management.
Opportunities for expansion and progression exist, including learning other medical, surgical, and clinical services, and developing supervisory, training, or management roles over time.
