Architectural Technologist

I’m working with an established, design-led practice in Aberdeen that is looking to appoint an experienced Architectural Technician or Architectural Technologist to join its collaborative team.

This is a genuinely interesting opportunity for someone with at least five years of post-qualification experience who enjoys taking ownership of projects, solving technical challenges and seeing good design translated into well-delivered spaces.

You’ll work across a varied portfolio of commercial, workplace and refurbishment projects, supporting schemes from the early design stages through technical development, approvals and construction. The role will involve producing accurate drawing packages, coordinating information with consultants and contractors, and ensuring projects meet the relevant technical standards, regulations and client requirements.

The practice is looking for someone who can operate confidently without needing their hand held. You should be comfortable managing your own workload, communicating directly with the wider project team and identifying potential issues before they become expensive problems. That said, this isn’t an environment where you’ll be left to sink or swim. You’ll be joining an experienced, approachable team that values collaboration, shared knowledge and doing the job properly.

You’ll need a recognised qualification in Architectural Technology or a closely related discipline, alongside a minimum of five years’ relevant post-qualification experience. Strong technical detailing and construction knowledge are essential, as is a solid understanding of UK Building Regulations and the Scottish planning and warrant process. Experience producing coordinated technical information using industry-standard design software will also be important.

Just as importantly, you’ll be organised, dependable and straightforward to work with. The successful person will be able to balance technical accuracy with commercial awareness, communicate clearly with clients and project partners, and remain calm when programmes get busy. Experience with in commercial interiors, office fit-out, refurbishment or workplace projects would be particularly useful, although candidates from other relevant architectural backgrounds will also be considered.

This role would suit someone who wants more responsibility and visibility without becoming another number in a large organisation. You’ll have the opportunity to contribute ideas, influence project delivery and build strong relationships with clients, consultants and contractors.
